The fine print: what FacilityShake does, what it does not do, what happens to your data, and how billing works.

1. What FacilityShake is

FacilityShake is a seismic screening tool for facility portfolios. It estimates how hard the ground is likely to shake at each of your buildings, and what that means for shelter-in-place and evacuation planning.

For facility emergency planning only — not a substitute for professional seismic engineering.

Specifically, a screening:

• does not inspect your building, or know how it was built, maintained or altered;
• does not model liquefaction, landslide, fire following earthquake, or aftershocks;
• treats tsunami as a separate planning overlay, and modelled inundation currently covers the Capital Region only;
• is not a re-occupancy decision — a licensed structural engineer makes that call.

Results are estimates with stated uncertainty. They must never be the sole basis for re-occupancy, retrofit or life-safety decisions.

2. How accurate it is

Median agreement with the national model is within a factor of about 1.4, and 35 of 36 test communities fall inside the tool’s stated ±2× band. That is screening accuracy, not engineering accuracy.

Every finalized screening is stamped with the disclaimer wording in force when it was finalized, and reports reproduce that stamped wording rather than the current one — so a report can still be read years later as it was issued.

3. Accounts and access

• There is no public sign-up. An invite from an administrator of your organisation is the only way an account is created. Invites are single-use, expire after seven days, and can be revoked.
• Access is personal to you. Do not share your sign-in — each person needs their own.
• Administrators of your organisation control who joins, who leaves, and who else is an administrator.

4. Your data

• Your facility records, screenings and reports belong to your organisation. Each organisation can see only its own data, and that boundary is enforced by the database rather than by the interface.
• Export always works — in every account state, including one that has gone read-only. You are never locked away from your own portfolio.
• If an account goes read-only or is cancelled, data is kept for 90 days, with export reminders along the way. Deletion after that is a manual, audited operation, never a silent automatic one.
• We use your data to run the service for you. We do not sell it, and we do not publish an organisation’s portfolio.

5. What you pay for

Price is set by one thing: how many facilities you have. Every screened record counts as a facility — a building, but also a dam, siren, tank or portal if you screen it.

• Additions — a wing attached with a different construction vintage or lateral system — are pooled. Each facility includes one, and they bill only if additions outnumber facilities, at half the facility rate.
• Components are never billed and never separately screened. A component is a part that cannot be occupied on its own: a canopy, a penthouse, a parapet, a mechanical enclosure. If something earns a screening of its own it is not a component — anything a person can be inside during an earthquake gets screened.
• Prices are stated per facility per month in Canadian dollars and billed annually. Month-to-month is available at a 20% premium. GST and PST are added at invoicing.
• Email alerts are included on every plan. SMS/RCS is a paid add-on.

6. Nothing is charged that you were not shown first

• Any change that would raise your bill appears on your Billing screen with the exact before and after figures, and is applied only after an administrator of your organisation approves it.
• Decreases never need approval and are applied straight away.
• Deleting a facility never raises a bill mid-term. Its paid slot stays yours until the period ends, and a new facility fills that empty slot at no extra cost. At renewal the bill drops.
• Every figure you are shown is computed by the same calculation that produces the invoice.

7. Trials, late payment and cancellation

• A trial is fully featured and needs no card. When it ends the account becomes read-only until it is converted.
• If a payment fails, everything keeps working for a 14-day grace period while it is retried.
• After that the account becomes read-only: viewing, reports and export all still work, and new facilities, screenings and alerts pause. Read-only is never destructive.
• You can cancel at any time. Data stays exportable for 90 days.

8. Managed licences, service levels and liability

Organisations above the self-serve range are licensed on a flat annual fee quoted per organisation, invoiced or by purchase order on your fiscal year, net 30. A managed licence includes loading your portfolio and keeping it current, unlimited facilities and additions within your own jurisdiction, and SMS/RCS.

Service levels, support response, warranties and liability are set out in your signed agreement, not on this page. Where your agreement and this page differ, your agreement governs. Ask us for a copy at any time.

9. Changes to these terms

If these terms change materially, licensed organisations are told before the change takes effect. Screening disclaimer wording is append-only: screenings already finalized keep the wording they were issued under.
